Atheistasis! with Cindy Plaza on Epigenetics

By heheals

October 15, 2020

I am brand new to the topic of epigenetics, and so have asked a friend who has been looking into this topic on her own for some time to try to give us a better idea what it is. To be clear, this is not a class on epigenetics, it is a conversation about how to begin approaching the subject, when you have no idea where to begin. It’s fascinating, and I recommend doing more research into anything that intrigues you! The next time I bring someone on to discuss this subject, it will be someone with a more solidified background researching this, rather than as a hobby. Thank you Cindy for joining me!

  1. To Clarify on the audio, the audio for the opening theme was at the perfect level coming from another piece of content in a playlist to this video. not too loud, not too soft (I know that is subjective) but comparatively the audio level from the call was too low. This is better than previous episodes that have blown my headphone off my ear (yes that is sarcasm). Otherwise the content was interesting as usual.

  2. The audio level was too low. I heard enough to remind me that I have been wanting to know more about epigenetics since I first heard of it 10 or 15 years ago. I hear it mentioned now and then, but not explained. So I found some other sources of info. The Royal Institute channel has a nice intro that simplifies it for people like me.

  3. As far as we know now, temperature in sex determination is mainly a reptile thing. Mainly turtles, crocodiles and alligators. Want to look up something cool, look at aphids. They reproduce largely through parthenogenesis only going through sexual reproduction 1 a year before going dormant.
